Sandhills Marathon 2008 Announced!

April 23rd, 2008

Faithful readers of the PassRanch.com blog will recall last year I wrote about the first annual Sandhills Marathon, and I am proud to announce that the organizers, Andy Pollock and Scott Schwartz are back again to run the event for a second year! We are excited to have such a unique event run right in our home town and I would like to invite all those interested in participating, volunteering or even just to watch and cheer on the runners to come to Brownlee Saturday morning, June 14th. For a better description of the course, I’ve included an excerpt from the registration form (you can download the entire registration form after the jump):

This year’s Sandhills Marathon will begin near the west end of the Brownlee Road, where it meets Highway 97, between Mullen and Valentine. The Road, a one-lane blacktop, winds south-east through the Wamaduze Valley until it reaches the town of Brownlee (unincorporated), then runs east along the north bank of the North Loup River. The course finishes on Highway 83, between Mullen and Valentine.

The Half Marathon will begin at the half-way point about the time the full marathoners are reaching that point. The courses are mainly flat with the road traveling through valleys between rolling Sandhills on either side. There are a few hills, but only a couple that are substantial. Limited transportation will be provided to and from the course.

The registration form can be downloaded by clicking here, and if you are interested in participating I would encourage you to act quickly as registration is limited to 50 participants. If you just would like to come out to watch, Andy suggests that the best places to go would be the start of the full marathon at the west end of the Brownlee road and half marathon near the Pound place, in Brownlee, and at the finish line near the junction of Highway 83.

For those who are interested in volunteering, contact Andy asp_rstone@yahoo.com or Scott schwartz262@yahoo.com via email or via the phone numbers provided on the registration form. I wish all of those who plan to participate good luck, and to have a great race!
