Day 5. A day of superlatives. Today, I traveled 560 miles. The biggest single day on the whole trip except for the 645 I drove from Georgetown, CO back to Kansas City. Easily the most varied scenery. The westernmost point of the journey was reached here, and the day started with the most spectacular sunrise view.
US Highway 93 and Idaho 75 follows along the Salmon river from the border with Montana (and the continental divide) through the Sawtooth National Recreation Area to its headwaters. Here they are.
Park Headquarters just north of Ketchum and Sun Valley.
Sun Valley. I bought a Powerball ticket here, and I promised the lady that sold me the ticket that if I won the $200 million jackpot, I would build a condo there. Alas, I will not be building a condo in Sun Valley.
Lava flows north of Twin Falls. There are also Ice caves here.
JACKPOT!!!!
Jackpot, Nevada is the first town you reach when you get to Nevada. Just over the border from Idaho.
Then, after some pretty mountain ranges you get to Wells. There are brothels there.
I got gas.
The Bonneville salt flats just across the border from Nevada in Utah. I've always wanted to visit this place. It's other-worldly quality is spectacular. It isn't as vast as I expected, but still the most different place I have ever visited.
I continued on my superlative trip to Price, Utah where I ended up staying in by far the HOTTEST hotel I have ever been in in my entire life. I had the a/c cranked up to the maximum and it hardly made a difference.
These folks were staying there, I wonder if they had something to do with the heat: http://www.runningamerica08.com
